Rediscover the power of poetry and great coffee this World Poetry Day with vida e caffè and Retail Capital.
In the true spirit of our ongoing commitment to our “vida e mundo” (life & the world) journey of ensuring a sustainable world for everyone, our Caffè for Poems campaign, in collaboration with Retail Capital and poetry non-profit organisation, Hear My Voice, is the embodiment of being better together. This initiative invites thousands of professional and budding poets to write and share original short poems and qualify for a free cup of coffee.
“When Retail Capital approached us with this idea and opportunity, we immediately knew that it was a perfect fit for us to get involved in this meaningful campaign. As a brand that has been built around vibe and self-expression, we have always had a relationship with and supported the arts over the years. We are always looking at how we can give back, while building local communities within our wider reach. We encourage everyone to use our coffee and spaces as the creative fuel to become inspired and to express themselves through writing a poem at one of our stores nationwide, or from the comfort of their own home. We are so grateful that we can help create awareness for such a great cause, an important creative art form and give back.“ says Darren Levy, CEO vida e caffè.
Erin Louw, from Retail Capital, says “Making your voice heard through the written word is one of the oldest and purest forms of art and as a business, we are very proud to support Vida and Hear My Voice in their quest to bring marginalised voices to the fore on a very important day to all South Africans, Human Rights Day. We have a lot of clients in the entertainment industry who’ve really had an incredibly difficult time over the past year, being part of this global poetry movement is another way we want to show our support to them and so many others while celebrating the beauty of the arts.”
The campaign runs for three weeks from 1 March 2021 and culminates with a virtual poetry reading on World Poetry Day, 21 March 2021. Entrants are encouraged to write and share short poems with us via social media.

One third of Hear My Voice, Founder & Director, Phomolo Sekamotho had this to say, “as an organization that seeks to amplify literary voices and plug poetry into unconventional spaces, this campaign is an exhibition and reminder that together more can be achieved and wider audiences can be reached. As an entity that serves a marginalized community, I believe it’s also fitting that the campaign dismounts on Human Rights Day – perhaps further emphasizing the need for collaboration, inclusion and support for youth voices”.
